Sherwood Airgunners kicked off their 2024 Ohio Buckeye Series Field Target season this past Sunday. We had a very nice day with temps reaching the low 80s but were challenged by lots of shifting winds that lasted the entire day. When you were trying to read the swirling winds your windicator may have shifted directions multiple times as you tried to figure out what was going on downrange. To add to the challenge the course was setup at a 32.02 Troyer rating with quite a few shots over 40 yds. We had a turnout of 22 shooters that were up for this challenge on our Highlands course. A particularly difficult section of the course was the field where the winds had their way with quite a few pellets.
In Hunter PCP we had 11 shooters. Ryan Spanagel picked up where he left off last year and shot a solid 46/60 with his Red Wolf for 3rd place. In 2nd place Doug Cunningham shot a 51 despite having trouble with his positional lanes. Doug is just warming up to his new Thomas and I'm sure he will have a solid year. In first place Jeff Swartz shot a 52 with his Thomas. That's 2 weeks in a row Jeff has been on top of the podium…good shooting Jeff!
We had 5 competitors shooting WFTF PCP. With the world WFTF championship in Arizona this fall we will be seeing more people shoot this division this year getting prepared for that match. Lucas Marusiak shot a solid 52/60 for 2nd place with his Thomas. Nice shooting Lucas! Tyler Patner per usual showed us how it's done on a extremely tough day only missing 6 for a 54/60. All of Tyler's misses were shots over 40yds in the wind. Great job cleaning the positionals bud! Tyler was also shooting a Thomas air rifle.
We had 3 shooters in Unlimited PCP and Dave Hitchcock came out on top shooting 54/60 also shooting a Thomas.
Matt Uhler shot WFTF PISTON and shit a 36/60. Al Duster shot Hunter Piston and got 18/60 and Larry Gromacki shot Open PCP and got 43/60.
In preparation of our Sherwood Forest GP we painted targets a solid bright blue color which worked out well. Hopefully our next match will be in the Hollow so competitors can get use to that course before the GP in June.
Thankyou for supporting Sherwood Airgunners. I also want to thank my crew of Doug Cunningham, Dave Campbell, Jerry McCombs, Carl Lucas and Tom West. Doug did a great job making new string winders!
Sincerely
