What a beautiful fall day for the last Field Target match at Sherwood Airgunners for the 2022 season. When I got to the club it was a brisk 42* and a bit chilly but as people started showing up the temps steadily rose. The woods course was full of color with the fall leaves at about peak brilliance. The course was a spectacular backdrop for this field target match on this late October day with leaves steadily falling and some tricky mild winds to make you think before the shot. The falling leaves were a great windacator for the ever present wind at todays match.
We had 21 shooters with Chris Oldfield coming all the way from Kentucky to shoot this match. We definitely have some dedicated field target competitors in our neck of the woods with a few others coming from Cincinnati. I'm sure everyone enjoyed this match with temps reaching the low 70s by match end. We had 2 therapy dogs join us today, Benji and Levi, which were there for emotional support if someone needed them after a missed shot. This course was setup at a 32.17 Troyer scale before and wind or lighting factors, so not the toughest course but still challanging.
In Hunter PCP we had 9 shooters with a few really great scores. Taking first with an incredible round of 59/60 was Doug Cunningham shooting his Daystate Redwolf. This was the match high score and also Doug's personal best score. Congratulations Doug, you killed it today! Coming in second only 2 shots behind was Justin Roberts with a 57. Rounding out the top 3 all the way from Cincinnati was Jeff Swartz with a 55. We have a very competitive Hunter class group here in Ohio.
In WFTF PCP Tyler Patner continued his excellent shooting leading this group with a 57/60. Only one shot behind was yours truly Keith Walters with a 56/60.
We only had a few shooters in Hunter Piston, Open PCP and Unlimited PCP and WFTF piston. Eric Jones won easily in Hunter with a awesome score of 45/60. Joe Edwards won Open PCP with a 49/60. Unlimited PCP was won by Rick Smelko with a blazing 58/60 and last but not least Jeff Paduk won WFTF piston with a 42/60.
I sincerely thank all the Field Target shooters that have made the trip to Sherwood Airgunners this FT season. Our goal is to have a challanging course that is enjoyable to shoot with as little problems as possible. I will have information on this winter's Bench Rest matches within the next few weeks, it's a great way to keep shooting your airguns and not to let dust settle on them through the winter months.
Sincerely,
Keith Walters
